Share the joys, heartbreaks, challenges and triumphs of the people who inhabit the small Oregon town of Thunder Point with #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr
With its breathtaking vistas and down-to-earth people, Thunder Point is the perfect place for FBI agent Laine Carrington to recuperate from a gunshot wound and contemplate her future. The locals embraced Laine as one of their own after she risked her life to save a young girl from a dangerous cult. Knowing her wounds go beyond the physical, Laine hopes she'll fit in for a while and find her true self in a town that feels safe. She may even learn to open her heart to others, something an undercover agent has little time to indulge.
Eric Gentry is also new to Thunder Point. Although he's a man with a dark past, he's determined to put down roots and get to know the daughter he only recently discovered. When Laine and Eric meet, their attraction is obvious to everyone. But while the law enforcement agent and the reformed criminal want to make things work, their differences may run too deep…unless they take a chance on each other and find that deep and mysterious bond that belongs to those who choose love over fear.

From Booklist
Carr (The Hero, 2013) returns to Thunder Point with the story of Eric Gentry, the ex-con who moved to town to be a father to his 17-year-old daughter, Ashley, whom he only recently discovered. He now owns Lucky’s, the gas station, and is building up his business restoring classic cars. Laine Carrington, the FBI agent who was shot while taking down a commune compound, is on leave. She’s moved to Thunder Point to recuperate far from her disapproving physician father. The two newcomers are powerfully drawn to each other. Meanwhile, one of Eric’s former employees, Al, shows up and befriends Justin Russell, 17, who is working at Lucky’s and hiding a big secret. Ray Anne, the sexy senior real estate agent, finds romance, while readers will recognize many of the good folks in Carr’s small Oregon town from previous titles in the series as they make cameo appearances. Everything in Carr’s tried-and-true formula rings true in this emotionally satisfying story. Responsible, self-sufficient, independent adults discover love; smart, responsible teens take on big challenges; and friends come through for each other. --Diana Tixier Herald

Loved the Story
By J. Jones
Once again Robyn Carr takes us to Thunder Point, a small town on the Oregon coast. One of the charms of Robyn Carr’s books is her ability to create a place where we would all love to live. Thunder Point is no exception. The people are great, the scenery is wonderful and the stories touch your heart. Thunder Point has the kind of people we would all love to find where we live.
The Chance is the story of Laine Carrington, the FBI agent from The Hero and Eric Gentry, who has been a side character is several previous books. Eric did not start out as hero material. You need to read the previous books to see why.
Both Laine and Eric seem to be polar opposites but they are drawn together from the first. But wait, they are not the only romance. The Chance introduces Al, who works for Eric but never stays for long. He meets Rae Ann and we have another romance that might work or might not. Then we have Justin, the angry teenager who also works for Eric.
Mix it all up: add Laine’s disapproving Father and you have a great story.
The Chance is book 4 in the Thunder Point series and like the Virgin River series the books come in three’s. The main characters in the first three books are relegated to side characters who do not play much of a part in book 4. For me that is one of the few things I dislike about Robyn Carr’s series. I get very invested in the characters, they are around for 3 books and then they almost disappear. However it is not enough for me to quit reading the series.

#4 in the Thunder Point series
By Cheryl Stout
I love Robyn Carr's books and have read them all, from The House on Olive Street to this latest in the Thunder Point, Oregon series. I've loved them all.
Carr has a real knack for writing about small town life and the very real seeming people that live in those small towns.
"The Chance" brings Laine Carrington, wounded FBI agent, together with Eric Gentry, owner of the local full-service gas station. She's law enforcement and he's had a darker past but they are attracted to each other immediately. Also there is the story of Al, that comes back to work for Eric and Ray Anne, local real estate agent. And there is the side story of Justin and his brothers, who need help and guidance.
Grown-up love and love affairs are a specialty of Carr's. Her protagonists seem like old friends, people we've grown up with and might run into at the grocery store. But the passion is sizzling and deep and noteworthy.
We catch up on other Thunder Point residents but get an in-depth look at the New romances.
I still like the Virgin River series the best but this one is growing on me. Also coming relatively soon are the next two books in the Thunder Point series - The Promise and The Homecoming.

Wish I could visit
By ELIZABETH
The Chance is a very good entry in this series. The secondary characters are so friendly, supportive and nosy that they make great family and friends. The two main characters are successful in their professional lives but have not invested the time and effort needed for an intimate loving relationship until now. Their joy at finding their HEA makes the book worth reading. However, I found the secondary relationship in the book even more inspiring. After all Rae Ann has been married three times, is in her forties or fifties or sixties (she can't remember her age), and been described as a pushy, brash, aggressive man stealer. We get to see her as vulnerable but aware of her own worth. Her friends value her and she values her friends. I recommend this book and the others in the series.
