With the third book of the Cold Creek series and its dynamic conclusion, brings forth again, another exciting, riviting, and romantic novel, by Karen Harper..........After being gone for so long, Charlene "Char" Lockwood, couldn't believe it herself, that she was actually back in Cold Creek, Ohio, her hometown, and a place she swore, she would never return to. After all, who could blame her? Her sister Tess, was kidnapped as a child, returned sometime later, only to have their father desert them all in the process. However, even with some close calls last year, her sisters are back where they belong, so they say, and have even found happiness as well. Going up a treacherous mountainside in her pick-up truck, all thoughts are put to the side, when she sees another vechicle in trouble, about to go over the side. Without thinking, she helps the driver, and he gets into her truck, where she meets young and very handsome, Matt Rowan, part owner and manager of Lake Azure Properties. Of course, the minute their eyes met, there was an instaneous attraction. By telling her, that someone forced him off the road to cause great peril, she goes with him to see her brother-in-law, Sheriff Gabe McCord. Matt Rowan has all the respect in the world for his father's long-time friend, Royce Fleming, also senior partner of his company, but Matt is also aware, how the locals feel about "fracking". In order for it to happen, it must be done safely and with regard to the people. The first thing she told herself when she came back to town was no more romances, but to Char's surprise, that was all about to change, when Matt Rowan came knocking on her door. It seems, as much as they tried, romance wasn't in the cards. Instead, someone was out to hurt the both of them. Char, being a social-worker, and helping families and their children on the mountain, has been threatened. What's more, when Matt brought her home, someone shot at her with an arrow. Last year, someone pushed Matt's foreman, off a cliff and there have been threats on his life, as well. What is going on? Was it angry locals? In regards to his company , buying properties? The fracking? But what about Char? Who would want to kill her? Or him for that matter? After promising to keep her safe always, Matt Rowan and Gabe McCord are going to discover some horrific answers to their ugly questions, but not before Matt learns that the woman he loves, has just disappeared from the face of the earth, before he ever had a chance to tell her, how he truly feels. For Gabe, however, he thought of Tess, all those years before, and lifted his head and whispered, "dear God, here we go again!"...................great book by Miss Harper and a perfect way to end the trilogy.........thank you......♡♡

A suspenseful series -The most intense and controversial with dark secrets of Cold Creek uncovered by the Lockwood sisters!

Karen Harper returns with her third installment in the suspenseful Cold Creek romantic thriller trilogy, BROKEN BONDS, her most intense and controversial novel of fracking. Hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”, is the process of drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside.
If you have read the other two books in the series, Cold Creek is set in the Appalachia, with many dark secrets, and the Lockwood sisters are uncovering them one by one. As they struggle to find their place in life and the men to love, they have to overcome many obstacles.
Each book centers on one of the sisters, Tess, Kate, and now Charlene, the third sister. Everyone in town knows or has heard of the Lockwood sisters as Tess was kidnapped years ago and Kate with the chaos at the Adena burial mound.
SHATTERED SECRETS, Tess’s story, FORBIDDEN GROUND, Kate’s story, and BROKEN BONDS, Charlene’s story. Three very different sisters, three desirable and dangerous men, and three endangered lives.
Charlene is a social worker and recently moved from out West to join her sisters in Cold Creek. As the book opens she is visiting one of our clients at their respective home, and as she is leaving, she witnesses a truck literally hanging from a cliff.
She is instrumental in grabbing Matt from the truck before it goes over. Matt was run off the road by a black pickup truck, and someone tried to kill him. Was the killer after Matt or his senior partner, the person who normally drives the company truck he was driving.
Matt is the general manager of a new luxury community of Lake Azure. Of course, Charlene finds him easy on the eye, and she is determined to help him find the person who did this. There are so many suspects, as the local cult, Hear Ye, or Matt’s boss, as no one is safe until they uncover the secrets.
Most recently, the issue of lucrative fracking contracts going to only a few select people was causing rifts among the locals. Fracking brought in business, but the truck drivers and rig men caused problems in the once-pristine area.
Matt understood money talked; however, he could not understand why his boss, Royce could not see his lucrative new business could hurt the human and natural environment of his big Lake Azure investment.
Charlene (Char) knew some of the locals resented the so-called rich folk who built luxury getaway homes or weekend places at Lake Azure, so possibly Matt had some enemies. In the process Sherriff McCabe (Gabe) helps with the investigation (married to her younger sister).
A very interesting read, as they solve the mystery and while fracking breaks up rock and fractures the ground to force out gas and oil; other kinds of fracking are at work in relation to broken marriages, broken family ties, and a split in the community that force emotions to the surface.
As the Lockwood sisters, and their men, are working together, they finally come home, to get their happy ending and help turn Cold Creek and Lake Azure back into its rightful place for a satisfying ending.
Would highly recommend reading the books in order, even though they could be read as a standalone; however, you will want to catch up with familiar faces and names from the previous books. Each book has different issues which surround the area, with a combination of suspense, intrigue, mystery and romance!

Be sure to read book 1 & 2 first

I love Karen Harper books and I am sure coming in at the deep of of book 3, not having read her previous books in this series, didn't help me grasp what was going on at first. The history between the sisters and all that goes with it, is something I obviously needed to read.
I would definitely say, read book 1 and 2 first.
The start of this book just hooks you in, because there is a lorry about to go over a cliff. So, this grabs your interest right away.
Charlene [one of the sisters] works as a social worker, she goes around the mountains encouraging kids to go to school, to get parents to agree to this is sometimes a problem.
Back to the lorry hanging over the cliff......well this is where Charlene gets to meet Matt. He is the driver. Was he pushed? did it mean to happen to him? did someone want his dead?
Charlene and Matt become quite close in this story.
There were times when Charlene was in danger in her cabin, so this kept you on your toes. I wasn't sure who was who and why sometimes and what eventually would happen or be revealed, but my stars come from the fact that I didn't put it down due to it kept my interest.
I need to go back to book 1 AND 2 obviously!
